Hello Smirkus Family and Friends,
In the circus we never say goodbye, instead we say “see you down the road,” and we would like to extend this one to our very talented 2015 Big Top Tour Hula Hooping coach, Timea Zimmerman! Timea, or Timi as we lovingly call her, was responsible for teaching and coaching a six person hula-hooping act for the 2015 Big Top Tour, Bon Appétit! this year.
Timi saw Smirkus for the first time last year during our 2014 Big Top Tour, Anchors Away for Atlantis, with her family and simply fell in love and expressed interest in coaching. With an illustrious circus career herself and coming from a circus family it was a no-brainer to scoop up her talent for this year’s show.
Born to a Hungarian father and Bulgarian mother, both acrobats, she was destined to be a performer and began traveling with her parents at three months of age. According to Timi, her father chose the Hula Hoop because as aerialists they would be required to stay longer to continue rigging, but ground acts would have less preparation time, thus more time to explore the towns they would travel to. So at the ripe age of six years old she began Hula Hooping and fell in love. After years of traveling and performing in four different circuses with her parents, she attended a national circus school in Hungary. Once she graduated she came to the United States where she got a job with the Ringling Brothers circus, which she traveled with for three years and where she met her husband Todd, who is a clown. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida, with her husband and two daughters growing her circus clan there. In addition, Todd and Timi own and operate their own performance and entertainment company Odd*O*Ts’ Entertainment, more information can be found at www.oddots.com.
We have been so lucky to have Timi with us and all of our wonderful coaches this year! A special thank you to Unicycle coach Nick Harden, Aerial coaches Alisan Funk and Eve Diamond, Clowning coach Jay Stewart, Acrobatics coach Chris Clark, Jump Rope coach Damon Lemmons, and Juggling coach Tyler Parks!
**Also, be sure to stay tuned to our Smirkus Camp Blog. Timea will be featured in a hooping tutorial by our Smirkus Camp Marketing intern, Hula Hooping Hannah!**
